The Lanka Independent Teachers' Service Union was established in November 2015. It was established as a result of the victory of the Human Rights Commission against several Provincial Councils who were acting contrary to the Teachers' Service Constitution in granting teacher appointments, appointing them in grades below the grade they should be established in and paying them low salaries.
The Lanka Independent Teachers' Service Union is not a pawn of any political party. It is not affiliated with any political party. It does not promote any political party. It is an independent teachers' union in the true sense of the word. The reason for this is that a trade union was formed as a pawn of a political party, and it had to work for the interests of the party rather than the interests of those professionals.
The Lanka Independent Teachers' Service Union is an organization that lends a helping hand to resolve the daily professional problems of teachers. For example, we have taken steps to provide necessary information not only to teachers but also to zonal offices regarding salary issues, vacation issues, personal file issues, disciplinary issues, etc. Most teachers acknowledge that what teachers need is such a trade union.
